Irish History 🇮🇪
The Struggles of Phil Lynott
Phil Lynott, one of the biggest legends in Irish history 🇮🇪⚡️
But Phil’s early years were tough. When Phil was born, his mother, Philomena, was kicked out by her landlords and sent to a home for unmarried mothers where she received beatings from the other women. They also tried to force her to put Phil up for adoption.
Eventually, she sent baby Phil to stay with his grandparents in Dublin, Ireland. His grandparents even pretended that young Phil belonged to a late friend of Philomena’s, and that they were looking after him for his dad.
Phil certainly used his struggles to his advantage, and with that, became one of the biggest legends in the history of Irish music.
I was asked recently, “if you could meet 3 Irish people (dead or alive) who would they be?”
For me, Philo will always be in that top 3 💚

🔥🔥🔥.
Up the dubs
I can speak Irish and read it
Look at it now. Dublinstan.
This Newfoundlander seems like he is trying to make his accent more than what it actually is. I know many people from the southern shore
Irelands greatest rock star
Spent some time in Dublin and ended up traveling to Navan quite a bit. Navan had a lot of Newfoundlanders working in mining. At the time, I had a hard time discerning between the accents.
They would turn in their graves if they could see the shower of traitors who run Ireland now
Can u upload without the music pls
All those of right wing leanings should be demanded to read this Proclamation and then they might get the full context and realise they have no right whatsoever to quote Pearse .
Phil is different. Not just anyone can be Irish.
Wonder what those men would think now ??
The English were- Establishment- horrible people. Don’t forget they around today.
6 counties forever British ♥️
Cockney wannabes
Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island also have pretty large Irish populations
I'm from Port aux port area and I sound American, cause I played online games my whole life and used to get made fun of my accent even my Canadian accent so I thought myself to speak a certain way, I even have to tell people I'm Canadian. However when I gets mad still my Newfie comes out
Not sure anyone understood anything

Both your accents suck, talk amongst yourselves forever.
ua-cam.com/video/Sr9Ogfpd1SA/v-deo.htmlsi=uhN1WdpejqQBJUrD Irish in Newfoundland circa 1981
If you ever come to Bonavista, NL you can stay at the house:) It is a good starting point to touch on the original landing of 1497 here. The Beothuk Extinction is another big part of our history that is largely ignored, but there is more history of that in the interior of the Island. The Rooms museum in St. John's has a lot of the main artifacts though. The first colonies set the groundwork on how the Indigenous were treated across the continent, not our proudest moment but human migration is rarely civil. A lot of European settlers hit Newfoundland first before heading further into North America, at least before New York was established and thriving. I wish we stood our ground on Confederation with Canada and fought for Independence. Our oil, renewables, forestry and fishing resources would have made us a rich independent nation, instead we have been bled dry of it all and were left with the bottom of the barrel in terms of an educated or skilled workforce once the Cod fishery shut down in 1992. Out-migration decimated the population for over 30 years. Joey Smallwood, the main reason Newfoundland is a part of Canada, was a member of the Orange Order. We took the religious and political divides with us it seems. The merchant oligarchy kept the poor fisherman of Newfoundland locked in a cycle of credit and unfair grading practices for so long that even to this day we struggle to get a fair wage from the processor cartel. My local government is run about the same with our trust fund mayor gentrifying the town for his real estate empire. Buying run down houses from poor folks to flip to rich tourists. Most of the businesses only operate for a couple months in the summer, often charging more than locals can afford, so the class divide widens with every boutique and eatery that pops up. I pity the people spending a fortune to get here, only to be gouged by greed in a place that is supposed to represent simpler living or nostalgic experiences. The town council even kicked out the local food bank organizer for speaking up. It is depressing but more of the same. A few descendants of the rich run everything while the majority that live here are uneducated or ignorant to the issues. Same everywhere I suppose.
Have a signed copy of Devoy’s memoirs right in front of me
Oh my GOD. It's like a cross between irish & my accent (northwestern USA). Shocking

The poor man would be sickened by the traitors that just gave away our sovereignty

No country has ever been able to absolutely charm the whole world with its culture like dear old Ireland has. Truly a special place 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Have you seen our old Republic Flag (before we joined confederation? Basically Irish but with pink. Irish Gaelic was spoken in some rural communities up to 2 generations ago... lots of common folklore as well.
